All the 2011 Table Reading

Some of you might be interested to see the complete list of books we read in 2011, even though I have been listing them individually as we read them.  I have given them stars as per their suitability for table reading.  Some of them with few stars are very fine books, they just do not work well for public reading in a monastery.

Miranda Carter, George, Nicholas and Wilhelm:  Three Royal Cousins and the Road to World War I.  ***

Eamon Duff, Saints and Sinners:  A History of the Popes.  **

Allan McCabe, Miracle on High Street:The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, NJ.  **

Adam Goodheart, 1861:  The Civil War Awakening.  **

Simon Winchester, Atlantic:  Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms, and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories  **

David McCullough, The Greater Journey:  Americans in Paris  ***

James Martin, Between Heaven and Mirth:  Why Joy, Humor, and Laughter are at the Heart of the Spiritual Life *

N.T. Wright, Simply Christian:  Why Christianity Makes Sense ****

****    Excellent for monastery table reading

***      Works well for monastery table reading
