All the 2010 Table Reading

Some of you might be interested to see the complete list of books we read in 2010.  I have given them stars as per their suitability for table reading.  Some of them with few stars are very fine books, they just do not work well for public reading in a monastery.

John Allen, The Future Church.  ****

Sarah Maitland, A Book of Silence (excerpts)    *

Victor Sebestyen, Revolution 1989:  The Fall of the Soviet Empire.   ****

Craig Nelson, Rocket Men:  The Epic Story of the First Men on the Moon.  **

David Hackett Fischer, Champlain’s Dream:  The European Discovery of North America.  ****

Eliza Griswold, The Tenth Parallel:  Dispatches from the Fault Line between Christianity and Islam.   **

Geoffrey Moorhouse, The Last Divine Office:  Henry VIII and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. ***

Thomas C. Reeves, America’s Bishop:  The Life and Times of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. ****

****    Excellent for monastery table reading

***      Works well for monastery table reading

**        Satisfactory table reading

*          Not satisfactory
